Since permits were issued at the close of 2015, work has been progressing at the site of Ryerson University's new Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex. In the year and a half since construction commenced, the 27-storey, Perkins + Will-designed educational and student residence facility has had its underground levels formed, and has since grown seven storeys above Church Street, steps north of Dundas Street East.

While the bulk of the development is being constructed with reinforced concrete by contractors Eastern Construction, a number of steel elements are being supplied and installed by structural steel specialists Walters Group, including four large A-frame elements.

The first pair of these structural A-frames were put in place in March, and two more were recently installed on the 5th floor. Walters Group will also be handling the steel frame of the tower’s mechanical penthouse level.

A view from the live camera operated by RyersonBuilds—captured from the neighbouring Ryerson Engineering building—provides a glimpse into the building's podium levels. The left side of this view peers into the double-height ground floor, where there will be lobby space, a cafe, and retail space fronting Church Street.

The project's podium will house the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Midwifery Education, the School of Nutrition, the School of Occupational and Public Health, the Communications, Government & Community Engagement department, University Advancement, Food Services, and a Fabrication Zone. The student residences will be in the tower above, with 100 suites capable of accommodating up to 332 students. The building is currently scheduled for a Summer 2018 completion, with the first students set to move in that Fall.
