The University of Toronto's Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design has announced this year's B.E.S.T lecture, featuring speaker David Fortin. Held at the Faculty Club on November 30th, the lecture titled "Urgency, Agency, and Exoticism: Competing metrics for design in northern Canada" will explore effective design solutions to address the impacts of climate change in northern Canada.
David Fortin is currently an assistant professor at Sudbury's McEwen School of Architecture at Laurentian University, a Member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (MRAIC), and a LEED accredited professional. Earning his PhD in architecture at The University of Edinburgh, Fortin's professional experience includes working on various commercial and residential projects throughout Western Canada, in addition to teaching architectural design, history and theory at a number of international institutions. As a member of the Métis nation of Ontario and the recently formed RAIC Indigenous Task Force, Fortin is closely engaged with promoting Indigenous design in Canada.

The Building, Ecology, Science and Technology (B.E.S.T) lecture series focuses on specialized topics of interest to the design profession by inviting leading researchers and practitioners to share their perspectives on the emerging intersection between ecology, science and technology in the built environment.
The lecture will be taking place on Wednesday, November 30th, from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM, at the U of T's Faculty Club. Free admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. More information about the event is available via the Faculty website.
